Did you know that we weigh every piece of food that comes into – and goes out of – our distribution centre? If you did know this (little-known!) fact, then you’re bound to want to know why!
Well, here at your local foodbank we keep a close eye on how things are going so that we can plan ahead and make sure there’s enough to go around. But we also report back to The Trussell Trust, and in return, they give us a regular round-up of how things are going.
Without further ado, here are some fascinating facts about how things went in the last financial year (April 2023 to March 2024) here in North Trafford:
- We gave out 5,641 food parcels (nearly 1,500 more than the year before!)
- We bulk-bought 36% of our food – more than ever – thanks to your cash donations
- 51% of the people we fed were first-time clients
- Most people were referred to us by Stretford Public Hall, Citizen’s Advice, St. John’s Ambulance, and AgeUK
- Our net stock went down by 36 tonnes ðŸ˜
Yes, that’s right – we have less food in our stores than we’ve had since before the Covid-19 pandemic.
But all is not lost! We have storage space for so much more food – and that’s a good thing, as long as you’re happy to lend a hand by helping us fill it. You can either drop off food at one of our collection points, or even better – donate cash via JustGiving and we can make sure we’ve got exactly what we need.
